OBBBA institutes stricter work requirements for 18-to 64-year-olds under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP and known as 3SquaresVT in Vermont) and prohibits benefits for people with certain lawful immigration status. Eight percent of program participants have lost their food assistance since the bill’s enactment, including over 1,800 children. This year the state’s SNAP enrollment is expected to drop to its lowest level since 2008.
