MONTPELIER – Katrina Menard has been selected as the State Policy Fellow for Vermont. The State Policy Fellowship program, sponsored by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in Washington D.C., is a research-focused fellowship dedicated to making change through careful research, thoughtful advocacy, and strong partnerships in a state policy context. Menard begins the two-year fellowship position on July 8.
A nonpartisan nonprofit founded in 2003, Public Assets Institute is an independent research organization that works to improve the wellbeing of all Vermonters and advance racial, social, and economic justice through research, fiscal analysis, and public engagement and empowerment. It focuses on education funding, family economic security, and making state tax and budget decisions transparent, inclusive, and responsive to Vermonters’ needs.
“I care deeply about Vermont and believe policy has the ability to make a significant and positive impact when done correctly,” said Menard. “I look forward to the opportunity to explore how state-level policy may be more effective at addressing unmet needs of working families and encouraging diversity in the state.”
Katrina joins Public Assets Institute as a State Policy Fellow after spending several years in Washington, D.C. analyzing and coordinating federal legislation for the U.S. Senate Budget Committee and Senator Bernie Sanders, primarily focusing on housing, transportation, and flood recovery policy. She has experience with state-level policy in Vermont’s agricultural and transportation sectors. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Vermont studying community and international development and is currently completing her master’s degree in sustainable transportation online through the University of Washington’s College of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
A fifth generation Vermonter, Katrina hails from the Upper Valley and has a passion for all things Vermont. In her free time, she enjoys playing ice hockey, jogging, reading, and finding the best swimming holes.
